Intermediate Machine Learning Engineer / Data Scientist

Permanent role: Starting as soon as a candidate is available.

Location: Based in our office on Karangahape Road in Auckland, New Zealand; with some days of the week optionally remote. We are also supportive of fully remote members in New Zealand.

Salary: We are open to applicants ranging from Intermediate to Senior; the salary will be commensurate with skills and experience. Additionally, we offer participation in a generous Employee Share Option Scheme.

Some of the things you will work on:

• Training, modifying, validating, optimising and deploying novel ML models in the Computer Vision space

• Running experiments to prove or disprove research hypotheses

• Working with a Data Labelling team to refine our training data

• Collecting subjective and objective analytics on the performance of models running in the wild

• Doing statistical analysis on user data and behaviour patterns

• Enriching our Data Warehouse with insights and classification results
   

We’re looking for someone who has:

• Attitude:

  • Strong drive to continuously learn, research any unknowns, question the status quo, and rapidly improve their skills & knowledge

  • Deep-seated curiosity and a desire to unearth the root of a problem

  • Excitement about shaping the future of photography
     

• Skills & experience:

  • Expertise in building custom Computer Vision ML models in PyTorch or Tensorflow

  • Understanding of how to tune and optimise ML models by improving model structure and training data

  • Good Python programming skills

  • Good communication skills

  • Between 1-4 years of relevant industry experience
     

• Education:

  • A solid foundational knowledge of data science and statistics principles

  • Ability to read, interpret, understand and implement findings from academic research papers

  • Experience equivalent to a Master degree or PhD in Data Science, Computer Science, Software Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field

Handy to have, but not required:

• Experience running ML efficiently on-device

• AWS or Azure certifications

• A keen interest in photography
