Location: Based in our office on Karangahape Road in Auckland, New Zealand; three  days of the week optionally remote.

Salary: Commensurate with skills and experience + participation in a generous employee share option scheme.

About the Role:

This is an amazing opportunity to learn and grow. You’ll join a team of several extremely talented senior AI specialists and will work to improve the data and systems that we use to create a variety of state-of-the-art ML models in the Computer Vision space. Improving the pipeline to create and improve ML models directly contributes to the core-value of our company.

Some of the things you will work on:

  • Dataset Creation and Model Testing:

    • Designing and building varied and diverse datasets for labelling and testing

    • Working with our labelling team to create labelling instructions and review labelling quality

    • Setting up end-to-end tests to validate machine learning models remain accurate over time
       

  • Data Pipelines and Data Warehousing:

    • Creating and maintaining ML data pipelines 

    • Batch processing of data in our data warehouse

    • Infrastructure for data loading
       

  • Diverse Engineering Challenges:

    • Solving really intricate technical challenges

    • Working with large datasets of labelled and unlabelled data

    • Communicating with marketing, product, engineering, and AI to figure out the best approach to solving multi-disciplinary problems
       

  • Analytics and Data Science Support:

    • Work with our Data Scientists to craft the best training data sets for our models

    • Conducting statistical analysis to identify user data patterns and behaviours to improve our models’ accuracy

    • Working with Data Scientists to automate some of their repetitive work

 

We’re looking for someone who has:

  • Attitude:

    • Ability to be scrappy and build imperfect solutions quickly and then improve them over time
       

  • Skills & experience:

    • 5+ years of industry experience

    • Great communication skills 

    • Proficient in statistical analysis, including correlation, regression, descriptive/inferential statistics, and experimental design

    • Excellent coding skills in either Javascript and Python (ideally both)

    • Experience designing data pipelines using Apache Airflow or similar

    • Experience building infrastructure as code using Terraform or similar

    • Ability to build distributed cloud-based solutions within AWS or similar
       

  • Education:

    • Solid theoretical foundation in Statistics (and Data Science)

    • Knowledge of the tools, workflows, and process used by Data Scientists

    • Experience equivalent to a Master degree or PhD in Data Science, Computer Science, Software Engineering, Mathematics, or similar field

 

Handy to have, but not required:

  • A keen interest in photography

  • AWS Certification

  • Experience in the dealing with large collections of image data

  • Experience training Deep Learning models

  • Knowledge of Rust or C/C++
